Crocker Art Camps
Connect with old and new friends at the Crocker’s new outdoor studio during week-long, fun, learning experiences that include art projects, recreation, creative free time, gallery lessons, and tours of the Museum’s special exhibitions. Each camp has two sessions to choose from!
Crocker Art Camp: Animal Adventures
Session 1: June 21 – 25; 9AM – NOON

From wild and woolly, to friendly and furry, discover a variety of ways to capture animals through art. Learn to draw, paint, and collage real (or imagined) animals, while taking inspiration from the menagerie of artwork featured in the Crocker’s collection.
Crocker Art Camp: Art and Nature

Jump into the natural world to examine, explore, and have some fun with nature through art! Energized by the art-filled galleries at the Museum, campers will print, draw, and paint the world around them. From color-infused landscapes to animated still-lifes, in this camp, imaginations run wild!

Focusing on his life and work, Associate Curator Jayme Yahr, and Lillian Nassau LLC gallery owner, celebrated Tiffany expert and Antiques Roadshow guest appraiser Arlie Sulka will provide unique context into the business, art, and human side of the Tiffany story.

Icons in Conversation returns in a riveting way with world-renowned artist Alison Saar. Known for her powerful sculptures and prints that illuminate the lives and narratives of the African Diaspora, Saar’s work is featured in collections across the world including the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Studio Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and Sacramento’s own Crocker Art Museum.

Learn how to emulate the glorious, robust hues and organic shapes of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s decorative artworks with watercolor paints in series of online, beginner-level classes. Participants will gain a variety of skills including knowledge of watercolor as a medium, color theory and mixing, brushwork, washes, wet-on-wet, and other techniques while being reminded of the infinite beauty of nature.

Learn the basics of art with a fun crash course for beginners that covers observational drawing and color theory. Discover how to achieve 3D effects using shading and blending with colored pencils. Participants will start the class by drawing simple still lifes before applying what they learned to produce a drawing suitable for framing.

Get inspired by the great outdoors in a class that covers composition, drawing, atmospheric perspective, color mixing, and more. This class is centered around the extravagant jewelry of the Gilded Age, inspired by the fabulous holdings of Margaret Crocker. This new program invites you to virtually drop into different Crocker galleries and explore art through fun and thought-provoking conversations with Museum staff, guides and guests. Get to know works of art from the convenience of your own home. Each session will focus on a theme and a few artworks, all live-streamed from the galleries. This professional learning series will take an integrated approach to learning about 20th-century American history. Co-presented by experienced, innovative teachers, this workshop will use artwork at the Crocker as a jumping off point to examine the nation’s history through three lenses: industry, people, and place. In addition to the Crocker collection, curriculum will explore two temporary exhibitions: Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection and For America: Paintings from the National Academy of Design. This workshop is a series; participants can register to attend all, some, or one of the sessions. This activity is supported in part by the Kingsley Art Club.
