Beginning Drawing and Color Theory

Learn the basics of art with a fun crash course for beginners that covers observational drawing and color theory. Discover how to achieve 3D effects using shading and blending with colored pencils. Participants will start the class by drawing simple still lifes before applying what they learned to produce a drawing suitable for framing.

The Crocker is taking measures to ensure in-person class participants maintain appropriate distance to limit and/or avoid close contact with others. Among other things, we are limiting the number of people in our classes, as well as monitoring and marking the distance between class participants. Instructor Patris left the education profession in 2004 to pursue her art full time. She has been juried into several national plein air painting competitions, and her work is in many private and public collections. Patris opened her own studio and gallery in Oak Park where she exhibits her artwork along with other local artists and coordinates other art-related events. In her studio and online via zoom, she teaches art classes on a wide variety of subject matters.
