Celebrating 25 Years

Lial's Impact
The Endowment

Over the last 25 years, Lial's ability to imagine and foster comprehensive change has guided the Crocker through an unparalleled period of expansion and growth. From the construction of the Teel Family Pavilion—which revolutionized the Crocker's ability to serve visitors—to increases in the collection, attendance, membership, and endowment, Lial has been the driving force behind the institution's phenomenal change. She has transformed the Crocker Art Museum from a regional gem into a nationally and internationally recognized institution. Lial's vision, executed with the support of staff, Board members, volunteers, community partners, and donors, has impacted all areas of the Museum's operations. That vision has set a driving belief that the exhibitions, artworks, and programs presented by the Crocker should reflect the diverse community the Museum serves.

Knowing the importance of a strong endowment in supporting long-term Museum operations, Lial made it a key initiative of her tenure to educate and engage local philanthropists and grow this invaluable source of sustainable income. Beginning in 1999 with just over $3 million, Lial—with the support of countless thoughtful donors—met goal after goal, ultimately raising the Crocker's endowment to more than $50 million.

Contributions to the endowment have a legacy of their own, providing crucial funding for the Museum year after year beyond the initial gift. Existing in perpetuity, the endowment will remain a tribute to donors whose contributions establish a legacy of support that will help sustain the Crocker and ensure its ability to serve the community for generations to come.
