Investigate the rich stories of early California art and discover how today’s artists dialogue with work from the past. Join a special docent-led tour uncovering the complexities of several iconic works and their place in the state’s 175-year history. Then, engage with Californian indigenous artist, Ocean Escalanti as they recontextualize a piece from the collection and lead a thought-provoking discussion and activity based on their own artistic process. Ocean is a printmaker, monitoring at Max's Garage Press and also an artist facilitator at NIAD Art Center in Richmond, CA. Ocean has exhibited, presented or facilitated workshops at BAMPFA, Contemporary Jewish Museum, SFMOMA, and the San Francisco Public Library.
