Celebrate the voices and visions of groundbreaking Black female directors in this film series inspired by the exhibition Black Artists in America: From the Bicentennial to September 11. From love stories to cultural legacies, each screening spotlights a powerful perspective and features a special introduction and discussion by local artists, organizers, and community leaders.

Cheryl, a young Black lesbian filmmaker, sets out to uncover the forgotten legacy of a 1930s actress known as the “Watermelon Woman.” As her search deepens, it sparks a personal journey through history, identity, and the power of storytelling.

The Museum implements a bag search as a security measure at all Thursday evening events. Purses and personal bags larger than 8" x 6" x 2" are prohibited inside the Crocker Art Museum during events. Baby and medical bags no larger than 16” x 16” x 8" are permitted, but may be searched and tagged by security.
