For more than 50 years, the Crocker has proudly presented its classical concert series, featuring the finest musicians and singers from the Sacramento region and around the world. These educational performances are approximately 60 minutes, with no intermission, and draw inspiration from art on view at the Museum.
Faythe Vollrath | harpsichord
Once the voice of the Baroque era, the harpsichord now inspires a new generation of composers. This program pairs modern works with the early pieces that shaped them, offering a rare chance to hear the instrument’s evolution across centuries. Each pairing invites listeners to trace musical narratives from past to present, discovering how the harpsichord’s expressive power continues to resonate today.
The concert culminates in the pairing of musical pieces Io and Jupiter, a celestial dialogue reflected in two paintings from the Crocker collection. Gordon Onslow Ford’s Voyagers in Space and Charles Gaines’s Sacramento: Orion the Night Sky mirror the music’s exploration of time and distance—events unfolding beneath the same stars, centuries apart.
Arrive early and enhance your concert experience with a Prelude Tour starting at 2 PM.
