For more than 50 years, the Crocker Art Museum has proudly presented its Classical Concert Series, a monthly concert featuring the finest musicians and singers from around the region and across the world. These 50-minute performances are inspired by the art on view at the Museum, including our permanent collection of European and California Art, as well as special exhibitions. They offer a variety of classical music, from Baroque to contemporary, through performances designed to be dynamic, potent, and contextual.
Performers of classical music of all genres are invited to apply to perform at the Crocker for the January through June, 2023 season. Applications are due March 15th and will be reviewed by the Crocker’s Volunteer Classical Music Board, which is composed of a highly diverse and knowledgeable group of musicians, critics, teachers, and music lovers. Selections are based on experience, quality of proposed program, and, most importantly, talent and musicianship, and we expect to notify all performers of their selection by April 30. We do offer a modest honorarium ranging from $500 to $1200, but travel and hotel costs are not covered.
The Crocker’s Classical Concert Series is designed to utilize the performing arts as an enhancement and added aural interpretation for our rotating and permanent visual arts exhibitions. As such, all Classical Concert Series applicants are asked to propose a program that has a thematic link to a concurrent exhibition or to works in our permanent collection. For applicants traveling from other continents, we are very willing to work with your schedules when possible. The Crocker is committed to supporting diversity and equity throughout our collection and programs, and we encourage applications that focus on underrepresented music and musicians.
The Classical Concert Series takes place on the 2nd Sunday of each month in the Museum’s Setzer Foundation Auditorium in Sacramento, California, which has seating for up to 260 guests. Vaccinations are required for attendees and performers, per our COVID-19 Safety Requirements.
