The Crocker is excited to announce its Black History Month lineup of special events, programs, and exhibitions celebrating the contributions and accomplishments of African Americans artists.

Take a closer look at Betye Saar’s “Woman with Two Parrots”, bring the whole family for a joyful festival of art and music, explore artist Faith Ringgold’s diverse works, and delve into recent acquisitions and promised gifts of art to the Crocker by African American artists in the exhibition “Hopes Springing High.” There's something for everyone, and we hope you join us for this celebratory month!

Black History Month Celebration: A Free Family Festival

Featuring Live performances, hands-on activities, and Sacramento’s one-and-only Black and Beautiful Community Marketplace. The Festival will also explore AfroFuturism in art and music! Get ready to sing-along, call and respond, and most of all celebrate all the amazing contributions of many African Americans.

Hopes Springing High: Gifts of African American Art

Honoring the strength and resiliency of African Americans and highlighting their contributions to art and the Museum’s growing collection the Crocker will host an exhibition of recent acquisitions and promised gifts of art by African American artists.

Faith Ringgold: An American Artist
February 18 – May 13, 2018
FREE for members. FREE with admission for nonmembers.
This exhibition brings together more than 40 examples of Ringgold’s varied production, including story quilts, tankas, prints, oil paintings, drawings, masks, soft sculptures, and original illustrations from the artist’s award-winning book "Tar Beach".
