Gerald Hansen Library for Art Research

The Gerald Hansen Library offers a wealth of information on the visual arts, from reference works, historical studies, monographs, and catalogues raisonnés to Crocker Art Museum collections and exhibition catalogs. Traditionally, the library has aimed to provide resources relevant to the Museum’s collections of California and American art, European painting, and Old Master drawings. Also available are US and international museum collections and exhibition catalogues, as well as publications of commercial galleries and auction houses. The library maintains a selection of contemporary art and craft periodicals and has a growing collection of more recent publications on artists with California and West Coast connections.

The collection is non-circulating, but researchers and interested readers are welcome to consult materials in the reading room on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 AM to 3 PM, or by appointment (call 916-808-8856 or email library@crockerart.org). The library’s holdings may be searched here (sign-in is not required).
