3 PM
For more than 50 years, the Crocker has proudly presented its Classical Concert Series, featuring the finest musicians and singers from the region and around the world. These educational performances are approximately 60 minutes with no intermission and draw inspiration from art on view at the Museum. Enhance your Classical Concerts experience with a Prelude Tour.
Honoring Wayne Thiebaud’s works, style, and philosophy, Wong Doe performs an eclectic mix of works from various composers and time periods. Beginning with the Joseph Haydn Sonata, a whimsical movement that evokes mystery and humor, Wong takes his audience on a musical voyage that mirrors the innocence and playfulness of Thiebaud’s work. A set of variations for piano on the old North Country carol “O Dame Get up and Bake Your Pies” directly relate to the some of Thiebaud’s most beloved works of pies, cakes, and other sweet treats, while Jack Body’s The Street Where I Live evokes Thiebaud’s rolling street scenes. The homage to the late Sacramento artist ends with Ferruccio Busoni’s piano transcription of J.S. Bach’s Violin Chaconne in D minor for a dramatic, emotional, and very stirring conclusion.
