Draw from observation to gain skill in achieving 3-D effects with shading, cross hatching and contour drawing techniques. Participants will begin drawing simple objects, then apply new skills to produce a final drawing. Class includes an in-person exploration of the exhibition Monet to Matisse: Masterworks of French Impressionism from the Dixon Gallery and Gardens and experience in-gallery drawing.

Instructor bio: Karen Roughton is an artist, retired art professor at American River College, and a Crocker docent. She has a master’s degree from California State University, Sacramento and has been involved in art education for more than 45 years. She is known for her supportive, easygoing teaching style.
