Material Explosion From Home
For kids and adults!
Saturday, April 10, 2021
Recommended for ages 8+, including adults!
Tired of staring at your television screen? Bored of game night and family Zoom calls? Try Material Explosion From Home, a mobile version of our popular studio program. Now, adults can join in the fun too! Take it to grandma’s house, get creative after dinner, or even at a family picnic. Choose one or more themed art boxes inspired by art at the Crocker. Each box is sprinkled with insights from local artists and comes with simple, easy-to-understand instructions. Plus, since it's not a class, you can explore each box at your leisure. Want to connect with others? Join us for a quick, standalone art project on Saturday at 10:30 AM. (All supplies are included in the box.)
Each box is designed to build relationships and fuel imagination, which means it comes with enough supplies for two participants and three projects! (We won't tell if you keep the supplies for yourself!) Curbside pickup is every Thursday at 4 PM starting April 1, while supplies last.

Color Explosion: Learn how to paint luscious confections, similar to the ones by famed Sacramento artist Wayne Thiebaud, as seen in Wayne Thiebaud 100: Paintings, Prints, and Drawings.
Print-a-palooza: Delve into the world of printmaking — the transfer of original artwork from one surface to another — by learning three basic printmaking techniques: stamp printing, relief printing, and collagraph printing.
Winter Wonderland: Explore the basics of color theory and mixing by studying works in the Crocker's collections and through experimentation. Then, using what you learned, create a painting and collage that evokes a myriad of chilly sensations.
Art in Action: Using birds and dragons as reference points, learn how to make artwork that springs to life through a variety of mediums: clay, mosaic, pencil, and paint.
