Festival of New American Music

The Crocker is proud to again be a venue for the Festival of New American Music, which showcases contemporary classical music with cutting-edge, avant-garde performances of works by living American composers. This year, the Festival is proud to offer a concert from the sextet ensemble Citywater, who will honor the Crocker’s current exhibitions of contemporary Native American art with Oregon Trail, by composer Christina Rusnak. Citywater will also perform Nor Cal Water Music, which incorporates audience participation for a truly unique musical experience. The Festival of New American Music, a project of the School of Music at Sacramento State, is celebrating its 42nd year of providing audiences with the finest in American contemporary music. More information at

Before the performance, enjoy an in-depth, docent-led tour of select works in the exhibition When I Remember, I See Red: American Indian Art and Activism in California, and art from the Crocker’s permanent collection,to help put the music in context with the art.

After the performance, connect with your fellow concertgoers over coffee and conversation. Look for the “Coffee After Classical” table in the cafe area, and find fun conversation starters and additional information about the music you heard. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase at the Crocker Cafe until 4:30 PM, and cafe seating remains open until 5 PM.

For more than 50 years, the Crocker has proudly presented its Classical Concert Series, featuring the finest musicians and singers from around the region and across the world. These educational performances are approximately 60 minutes with no intermission and draw a connection to the art on view at the Museum.
