Printing, Painting, and Pointillism

Students ages 9 to 12 will travel back in time and to the Far East to discover early examples of wood block printing then explore how these works inspired Pointillists like Paul Signac. Then, using an assortment of techniques, participants will create prints and paintings as they learn about color arrangements and composition.

About the instructor:
An art educator for more than 20 years, Carrie Markel has taught painting, mixed media, and printmaking to students of all ages. In 2015 Markel was a finalist for the Arts Educator of the Year award given by the Arts and Business Council of Sacramento. Carrie earned her BS in Fine Art and design from Sacramento State and holds a California teaching credential.

No experience is required unless noted. The Museum provides student-quality supplies included in the fee unless indicated otherwise. Students are welcome to bring their personal supplies; however there is no discount for doing so. Oil paints are not allowed in studio classrooms.
