Saturday, April 6
For Ages 18+
The Crocker features the world’s foremost display of art from and of the Golden State, so it’s fitting that we celebrate California Poppy Day on April 6! Paintings of poppies abound in the Museum’s galleries, and students will turn their gaze to the state’s flower in this fun class designed for beginners. Close observation of poppies will lay the groundwork for the creation of several drawings and a fully developed painting on canvas.

Instructor: Amara Richardson
About the Instructor:
Amara has been passionate about art and its history since childhood. She
studied art history and fine art at San Francisco State University and has
continued her studies in a wide variety of mediums. Amara especially
loves to work in clay, oil paint and mixed media to create colorful works with
a good-humored touch of charm. She approaches making and teaching art
from an art historian’s perspective and believes that understanding the past is
essential to creating art for the future. Having worked with children for
over a decade teaching after school art classes, directing a day camp and more,
Amara has developed a natural rapport with her students. A lover of
animals, she will happily talk about them for hours, so feel free to tell her
all about your favorite creatures.
