Hand Building with Clay

For Ages 18+
Inspired by Loet Vanderveen’s stylized animals, participants will acquire the techniques used in hand-building sculptures, such as slab, coil, and pinch. After time spent practicing, students will sculpt a table-top sculpture.

About the Instructor:
Susan Comstock has worked in clay for the past 20 years. She has studied extensively under renowned artist Yoshio Taylor, and was the artist assistant for his monumental, handmade tile mural Resurgence, permanently installed in the lobby of the UC Davis Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion. She earned her bachelor of arts from San Francisco State University with an emphasis in ceramics. Comstock teaches clay sculpture and pottery at Folsom Art Center.

No experience is required unless noted. The Museum provides student-quality supplies included in the fee unless indicated otherwise. Students are welcome to bring their personal supplies; however there is no discount for doing so. Oil paints are not allowed in studio classrooms.
