Instructor: Sandy Whetstone
About the Instructor:
Whetstone draws inspiration from everything around her, but her primary
influences are from nature. Her art tends to be humorous or whimsical and
she creates in a variety of mediums -- paint, ceramics, printmaking, fiber
arts, metal and found objects, often compose pieces using a combination of
media. Art is a way of connecting, exploring, responding, interpreting
and enriching my world -- it is both her therapy and my passion.
Over the years she studied ceramics with Yoshio Taylor, bronze casting with
Alan Osbourne, painting with Michaele LeCompte, and printmaking with Emily
Wilson and Sean Caufield. She have also developed, directed and taught a
summer art program for children at Bergamo Montessori School. Her art has
been shown at Fe Gallery, SMUD Gallery, Solomon-Dubnick Gallery, The
Contemporary Temporary Gallery, Union Hall Gallery, The Blue Line Gallery, and
the E Street Gallery in Sacramento, as well as in Davis and the Bay Area.
She lived in Thailand and China and traveled in Europe, Mexico, India and South
East Asia, but always returned to her home in Sacramento.
