Family Friday - Mister Cooper and Mixed Media
Friday, June 30, 2017
11 AM - 12:30 PM
This summer, Family Fridays are hands on! Explore a different artistic material each week, with interactive artist demonstrations, exciting performances, and creations you can take home. Designed for a range of abilities and learning styles, Family Fridays take place in the E. Kendall Davis courtyard and include multisensory activities, picnic areas, and a Double Digit Clubhouse just for kids 10 and older.
On June 30th, the popular songster Mister Cooper will be rocking the stage with his sing-alongs. Artist Emily Swinsick will demonstrate her beautiful mixed-media creations as kids are encouraged to make their own!
When Ken Cooper volunteered to play music in his son’s kindergarten classroom, little did he know that more than 20 years later, he’d still be singing with young students at schools, libraries and concert venues. But here he is, now known as Mister Cooper, bringing an array of “songs that teach” music programs to growing audiences throughout the Sacramento area. A Fall 2011 Parents’ Choice Approved Award Winner – “Mister Cooper is for the birds”.
Emily Swinsick lives and works outside of Sacramento, CA. She received both her BA and MA in Studio Art from Sacramento State University. Her work continues to be exhibited in the greater Northern California region. She currently is the Artist in Residence at The Table UMC for 2017. The work is defined by materials and the process of making. The goal is to manipulate the media as far is it will allow to be pushed. Pattern and texture are built up using found and re-purposed items; working strongly with dualities in the physical sense as well as the contextual.
Free for members and free with general admission for nonmembers.
