Designed for beginners and anyone wishing to explore new avenues for process, this class takes participants on a tour of the exhibition Turn the Page: The First Ten Years of Hi-Fructose, to see how contemporary artists use traditional media to achieve brilliant results. Gain an understanding of various drawing techniques and tools, draw from observation, and experiment with rope, wire, sticks, cardboard, and more. Explore surfaces beyond paper, such as Mylar, fabric, and cardboard.

Instructor: Abigal VanCannon
About the Instructor:
Abigail VanCannon paints out of her home studio in Sacramento, CA. Her artistic background allows her to work and teach in numerous mediums, but she is most prolific in oils. She holds a BFA from Iowa State University and MFA from the Academy of Art University. SouthWest Art Magazine name VanCannon one of the 21 Under 31 emerging artists in 2012. She was selected for 30 Under 30 in Summer 2013 Art Business News Publication as well as SouthWest Art Magazine “Meet The Finalist” December 2013. VanCannon keeps and active exhibition record, showing in many local and national settings.

No experience is required unless noted. The Museum provides student-quality supplies included in the fee unless indicated otherwise. Students are welcome to bring their personal supplies; however there is no discount for doing so. Oil paints are not allowed in studio classrooms.
