Nine Saturdays, February 11 - April 29 (dates are not consecutive)
For Ages 7-12

Designed for busy schedules, enroll your child in one, two, three, or all sessions. Each Saturday, students will bring an artwork to conclusion, ready to take home.

* February 11: Draw a still life from observation after learning how to get special effects from oil pastels. Instructor: Laura Schofield

* February 18: Acquire a few basic acrylic painting tips and inspiration from art in the galleries, then paint animals from your imagination. Instructor: Helen Plenert

* February 25: Explore patterns and colors in mosaic. Assemble bits of glass and tile to create a mosaic artwork. Instructor: Elizabeth Dolbec-Oliveras

* March 4: Learn about the different types of manga characters and how to draw their bodies and faces. Then, develop, draw, and color your own character using new skills! Instructor: Laura Schofield

* March 11: View the exhibition Into the Fold: Contemporary Japanese Ceramics from the Horvitz Collection to gather inspiration for sculpting a geometric form using air-dry clay. Instructor: Sue Comstock

* April 1: Try a variety of drawing techniques and tools to get a 3-D look. Instructor: Patris

* April 8: Sculpt a natural or organic form using air-dry clay. Instructor: Sue Comstock

* April 22: Paint a seascape on canvas. Instructor: Patris

* April 29: Take a walking field trip to the river and around the Crocker for a beginner watercolor class. Instructor: Helen Plenerthe river and around the Crocker for a beginner watercolor class. Instructor: Helen Plenert

About the Instructor:

For the past 15 years, Laura Schofield has been an instructor at Academic Talent Search (ATS) through Sacramento State University, where she instructs students in grades 4 through 9 in cartooning, animation, stop-motion and anime/manga. She says she loves teaching young students because they are excited to participate and absorb everything we cover in class. “This willingness and enthusiasm to learn makes me a better educator because I draw from their energy,” she says.

No experience is required unless noted. The Museum provides student-quality supplies included in the fee unless indicated otherwise. Students are welcome to bring their personal supplies; however there is no discount for doing so. Oil paints are not allowed in studio classrooms. Registered students are not permitted to bring guests.
