Gary King is SMUD’s chief workforce officer and responsible for company-wide services such as procurement, fleet, facilities management, human resources, workforce development, diversity and inclusion, health, safety, and physical security. Gary joined SMUD in 1998 and has served as a member of SMUD’s executive team since 2008. Prior to coming to SMUD, Gary served many years in senior human resource management positions with the California city of Palo Alto and the city and county of San Francisco. Gary earned his master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Maryland and his bachelor’s degree in behavioral science from Pacific Union College. Gary also serves on the boards of the Western Energy Institute (WEI), Sacramento Works, Sacramento Covered, and the California Workforce Development Board.
