Encaustic art is a malleable medium that is beautifully expressive on its own, and just as easily a support for mixed media. I’ve recently been exploring different methods that integrate manipulated digital images of the natural landscape with encaustics, pan pastels and collage, especially with framing presentation - not separately, but as a unique part of each mounted encaustic piece. Though two-dimensional, these encaustic works also emphasize how the translucency of the wax medium and texture can add a greater sense of depth and mystery to each scene.
