Often times we all find ourselves daydreaming and escaping into a miniature temporary reality; what I hoped to convey by this painting was the feeling of crossing over from reality into that dream-like state.

The painting is me as I see myself most days. There’s two crows that cover the majority of my body, and I took inspiration from the painting Man in a Bowler Hat, 1964 by Rene Magritte. I did not try and put a lot of texture onto the painting, it’s all relatively flat, but I wanted a bright and happy background with some crazy contrast (hence, the crows). Often times we all find ourselves daydreaming and escaping into a miniature temporary reality; what I hoped to convey by this painting was the feeling of crossing over from reality into that dream-like state. Everything can just stem from one’s imagination — so Ipainted what came to me at the heat of the moment.
